Save the dates: Nine great IPG events for 2020

We’re looking forward to a busy programme of events this year. Here are nine of the dates for your diary!

Business Strategy Meeting

Monday 27 January, 2pm

We kick off 2020 with another of our popular Business Strategy Meetings. With speakers from three companies in different sectors and at different stages of the journey—Nia Beynon of Boldwood Books, Phil Turner of Meze Publishing and Julia Morris and Di Page of Critical Publishing—there’ll be lots of inspiration and practical tips for growth. It’s supported by Publishing Consultancy Group, and with the cost deductible from a ticket to the Spring Conference, it’s essentially a free event! Book a place here.

Sustainability Action Group Meeting

Monday 27 January, 5.30pm

Like many organisations, we’re making sustainability a big theme of our year at the IPG. Join us for the first gathering of our Sustainability Action Group, where we’ll be discussing ideas, action points and targets, and hearing from Profile Books’ Kate McFarlan, Boldwood Books’ Amanda Ridout and Clays’ Vicky Ellis among others. All input welcome. This event is free and open to all members, and while it follows on from our Business Strategy Meeting you don't have to go to that to come to this. So we have an idea of numbers, please register in advance.

Blackwell's Meeting

Monday 27 January, 5pm

Completing a hat-trick of events on Monday 27 January is a special short event with Blackwell's. We'll be welcoming sales and marketing director Phil Henderson to discuss a recent review of the retailer's operations and changes to terms.

The London Book Fair

Tuesday 10 to Thursday 12 March

We’ll be hosting two stands at the UK’s biggest gathering of publishers at Olympia from 10 to 12 March, supported by Clays—one for consumer publishers in Hall 6 and another for academic specialists in Hall 7. If you need a little meeting space over the course of the fair, we have various packages on offer; all the details are here. Don’t miss our legendary stand party on Wednesday 11 March!

Spring Conference

Tuesday 28 to Thursday 30 April

The first of our two big annual Conferences returns to our popular venue of Heythrop Park in Oxfordshire for 48 hours of inspiration. We’ll be announcing the programme soon.

The Independent Publishing Awards Gala Dinner

Wednesday 29 April

Our Spring Conference hosts the gala dinner to present the 14th annual Independent Publishing Awards. Entries open at the start of February, and it could be you on stage to pick up a trophy. Head here for help to start thinking about your submissions.

Academic & Professional Special Interest Group Dinner

Wednesday 17 June

Dinners for our Special Interest Group for academic and professional publishers are always convivial, and this one will give us a chance to discuss the latest issues in the sector. Details of the venue and guests will follow.

Autumn Conference

Tuesday 22 September

We’ll be back at the excellent Shaw Theatre in London for our 2020 Autumn Conference. It might seem a long way off, but get the date in your diary now!

The Frankfurt Book Fair

Wednesday 14 to Sunday 18 October

We’re already looking forward to our annual trip to Germany. As at London there will be two places to exhibit with us, and we’ll be hosting our annual stand party and members’ dinner too. Contact Charlotte if you would like to discuss joining our stands.

There will be more IPG events to come, including dates for Special Interest Group dinners. Keep an eye on our ebulletin and the events page of the website for the latest dates.
