Be a part of one of the fastest-growing independent publishers in the UK

About Boldwood

We have published over 1700 titles, signed over 231 authors and sold 50 million books across the world since 2019. Boldwood guarantees global publishing of every title in 11 formats across eBook, Audiobook, and Print on publication day across all English language territories. We were awarded Independent Publisher of the Year by both the British Book Awards and the Independent Publishers Guild in 2025, Small Press of the Year at the 2023 British Book Awards and Independent Publisher of the Year by the IPG in 2022.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly organised, proactive and commercially aware professional to join our fast-paced, collaborative Production Department: as Production Assistant or Production Executive, dependent on experience. The role requires a confident operator who can take ownership of complex workflows, drive projects forward, and contribute to improving production processes. You will be solutions-focused, detail-driven, and comfortable managing competing priorities.

The Production Assistant / Production Executive works closely with Editorial, Sales, Marketing, acting as a key point of coordination to ensure alignment on schedules, standards, and commercial goals. The role also involves managing relationships with authors, freelance creatives, and key suppliers, ensuring clear communication, high-quality outputs, and efficient delivery across all formats.

All Boldwood staff work remotely, and we welcome applicants located anywhere in the UK.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Production Manager, you will take a lead role in overseeing the end-to-end production lifecycle across print and eBook formats, ensuring delivery to the highest quality standards and in line with commercial and scheduling objectives. Key responsibilities include:

  • Owning and managing a portfolio of titles, with full accountability for delivering projects on time, within budget, and to agreed publishing and technical standards.
  • Leading the finalisation of book files for distribution and print, including oversight of artworking, pre-flighting, and e-proof review, with ultimate sign-off responsibility.
  • Collaborating strategically with freelance designers and external suppliers to ensure consistently high-quality cover and content outputs, while driving adherence to deadlines and brand standards.
  • Managing updates to cover and text files across new editions, reprints, and corrections, working cross-functionally with Production Editorial, Sales, and Marketing teams to align on priorities and timelines.
  • Building and maintaining strong author and stakeholder relationships, ensuring a professional and responsive experience throughout the production process.
  • Deputising as needed for the Senior Production Executive

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Desirable: technical proficiency across publishing tools and systems, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Adobe Acrobat, and a working knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Exceptional attention to detail combined with the ability to see the bigger picture and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Highly desirable: Proven experience operating effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with fluctuating priorities.
  • Excellent organisational, prioritisation, and problem-solving skills, with a proactive and solutions-focused approach.
  • Demonstrable ability to work autonomously while also collaborating and influencing across teams and stakeholders.

Please apply with a CV and covering letter to the Head of Production by 5pm GMT, Tuesday 28th July: [email protected].
