Job description

If you're working in community management, audience development, or reader engagement at a book platform, distributor, or publisher — and you're ready for the next step — this might be for you.

We're an independent digital-first publisher across three language markets: German, English, and French. Commercial fiction — romance, crime thriller, suspense — is what we do. This is a newly created role: you'll own our reader and reviewer community strategy across all three markets, build and lead a small team, and connect community growth directly to commercial outcomes.

About us

Our vision is to publish entertaining literary content in all languages and across all formats for the commercial success of both dp, our authors and our partners. We’re Germany’s leading independent digital publisher with a focus on publishing commercial fiction predominantly in the Crime, Thriller and Romance genres. We are proud to work with bestselling authors including Rachel Reid (HBO Heated Rivalry/ Game Changers series), Saskia Louis, Rina Kent, Rhys Bowen, Stacy Reid and Ella Quinn. It takes a whole team of dedicated professionals with a passion for words, stories and design to create our ebooks and audiobooks. We’d love to hear from you if you can share these values and vision.

The Role

As Manager Growth & Community you will own the group’s reader and reviewer community strategy and its broader growth agenda across all three language markets. This is a newly created role reporting directly to the Managing Director. You will build and lead the Community Marketing team — currently comprising a Digital Marketing Executive and an incoming Junior Community Executive — and work closely with your counterpart, the Senior Manager Key Account & Performance, on shared revenue targets and commercial strategy.

This is not a content creation role. It is a strategic and analytical position for someone who understands how reader communities drive commercial outcomes in digital publishing and who can build the structures, audiences, and programmes that make that happen at scale.

What You Will Own

  • The group’s reader, listener, and reviewer community strategy across DE, EN, and FR markets
  • Leadership and development of the Community Marketing team
  • Growth strategy: expanding audience reach and deepening reader loyalty across all catalogue segments
  • Community platforms, newsletter programmes, and influencer and blogger relationships
  • Organic social media presence across all dp brands and markets
  • Community and audience-focused data analysis: reader segmentation, genre fit, engagement patterns — translating insights into actionable strategy
  • Cross-functional collaboration with the Performance Marketing team on audience-building campaigns that support long-term revenue generation
  • Close collaboration with the Editorial team on title positioning and launch planning
  • Identification of new growth channels and audience segments ahead of catalogue expansion

Team Build-Out & Ownership

  • As part of this appointment, you will define, recruit, and build the team you need to deliver against your mandate. You own this process — identifying gaps, contributing to hiring decisions, and ensuring continuity of performance throughout. The MD does not carry this transition — you do. This is a defining feature of the role and an early test of your ability to lead rather than execute individually.

What We Are Looking For

  • A deep understanding of reader communities and what drives engagement in commercial fiction — romance, crime thriller, or adjacent genres
  • Track record of connecting community or audience strategy to measurable commercial outcomes
  • Strong analytical capability: comfortable working with platform data, audience segmentation, and performance metrics
  • People leadership experience or clear readiness to step into formal people management for the first time
  • Comfort working across multiple languages, markets, and cultures — the group operates in DE, EN, and FR
  • Fluent in English. Additional languages are an added bonus.

What We Offer

  • A strategically critical role working closely with the Managing Director and the leadership team
  • An opportunity to shape and genuinely influence the group’s strategy
  • A collaborative, ambitious team that takes its work seriously without taking itself too seriously
  • A genuinely international scope — three languages, three markets, one integrated strategy
