Internal Communications and Events Manager, Communications, Sales & Marketing

The opportunity

Communications is all about telling our company stories to a wide range of audiences and stakeholders. Internal communications ensures these stories are told first and in a compelling way to our staff, keeping employees up to date with company strategy and activities. The Internal Communications and Events Manager will support the Head of Corporate Communications in finding and telling these stories as well as managing and leading the events programme for the company both internally and, with important stakeholders and communities externally. This role is an ideal opportunity for a confident, friendly and professional individual to work in a hands-on role, in a small team that is responsible for developing and shaping Bloomsbury’s corporate reputation and image.

The role

Internal Communications

  • Build strong inter-departmental relationships to identify relevant stories, issues and projects and work with the appropriate stakeholders and team to deliver these
  • Develop guidelines for Internal Communications channels
  • Management of comms calendar to ensure that all company activity is captured and subsequent comms plans can be developed and implemented
  • Traffic management of all internal comms announcements to ensure each initiative has the right amount of time and space
  • Management of monthly & quarterly review in association with Head of Corporate Communications to ensure that we are communicating right message to right audience ahead of monthly/quarterly activity
  • Building and coordinating content strategy for internal communications channels
  • Company Townhalls including ownership of agenda and ensuring briefing and correct content are in place
  • Editorial input of weekly newsletter
  • Working with D&I and Sustainability Manager and all employee groups/forums to ensure their activities are represented in the communications channels
  • Management and editorial plan for LinkedIn and any other relevant social channels
  • Development of content for Linkedin and other appropriate social channels that need content to tell our corporate story
  • Ensure appropriate content is also reflected on the Bloomsbury website
  • Development and curation of content, brand and photography resource
  • Content editor for Annual Report, company intranet (Athena) and collating marketing resources / videos / images for ongoing use in corporate communications
  • Monitoring communications trends and continuously updating methods, processes and tools

Event Management

  • Preparing and developing the programme of events in collaboration with senior management, communities and employees and the overall communications calendar
  • Leading on event planning, ensuring event topics are well-researched and preparing briefings to event speakers and partners to ensure clear understanding of the project, its aims and successes
  • Ensure appropriate content is uploaded to the correct comms channels and promoted in a timely manner
  • Leading on event delivery and logistics on both virtual and physical events, including budget management, and working/liaising with partners
  • Ownership and excellence with online conferencing technology & systems
  • These events include but are not limited to:
  • Company Publishing Highlights – event design, project management, content oversight and delivery in association with key stakeholders
  • Management of Bloomsbury Institute – including overall strategy, programming, event communications, marketing, member mailing lists, logistics, hosting and budget management. Reviewing event registrations and following up with the community to encourage registrations where required
  • In-house event consultant on bespoke events as required for internal stakeholders and committees (Export sales, Diversity networks, Human Resources)
  • Responsible for internal events programme for UK staff, including ‘Lunches Live’ author events, Christmas party, Bloomsbury Social Committee etc
  • Deliver custom internal events as requested by Chief Executive and EC (i.e. Shareholders evening, Bloomsday, Save the Children, Book Aid International)

Partnerships

  • Working closely with the Head of Corporate Communications, management of corporate charitable partnerships, donations and sponsorship projects eg National Literacy Trust to ensure best practise and significant Bloomsbury presence
  • Work in partnership with marketing and publicity teams on initiatives to understand and support activity if appropriate, and uncover any stories that enhance our partnership and reputational story
  • Responsibility for brand projects like Pleasure of Reading Prize, Greater London Authority ‘Unpacking the Credits’ film, Get into Publishing, Bedford Square Festival, Bloomsbury Festival
  • Knowledge, skills and experience
  • Excellent written and editing skills, the ability to communicate clearly and develop messages for a variety of audiences in company tone and voice
  • An ability to develop content and a sound understanding of social channels
  • Team player – working as part of a small team, have a can-do attitude and be willing to take on any challenge with a natural flair for problem solving
  • Flexible and willing to work, on occasion, outside of normal workings hours to deal with or escalate issues that arise
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Be able to independently manage projects whilst ensuring all key stakeholders are kept appropriately looped in
  • Strong attention to detail and unstinting focus on quality and excellence
  • Strong time-management skills and the ability to work across several projects at once
  • Partner with external agencies and manage budgets

The role is a full-time permanent position

The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are: Tuesday and Thursday
