The opportunity

We are looking for a Rights Assistant to join our thriving Rights team at Bloomsbury to provide administrative support to the Rights Managers responsible for selling licences and co-editions for both the Bloomsbury Academic & Professional and the Osprey lists.

Three-time winner of the Bookseller Academic, Educational & Professional Publisher of the Year Award, Bloomsbury’s Academic & Professional Division publishes 1,600+ new titles a year. Established in 2008, the division has grown organically and through acquisition and publishes across the humanities and social sciences, from higher education through to professional practice.

Founded in 1968, Osprey is the world-leading publisher of illustrated military history and has a list of over 2,500 titles on a wide range of subjects from ancient times to the present day; since 2015 it is also the multi-award winning publisher of board, card and role-playing games.

The role reports to the Senior Rights Manager|Academic.

The role

  • General admin support including but not limited to processing contracts, gratis orders, sending out translated author copies, and electronic file supply
  • Manage co-edition fulfilment, including loading deals onto Biblio, maintaining schedules, obtaining customer files and approval of materials, invoicing
  • Respond to internal and external queries from colleagues, customers and authors
  • Support the rights team in preparation for key book fairs and sales trips
  • Provide assistance in the preparation of rights guides and catalogues
  • Compile and send out email newsletters to customers and maintain contacts lists
  • Manage Osprey’s permissions and police and prevent piracy of Osprey’s intellectual property

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Interest in Rights selling and passion for books
  • Proficient in Excel and MS office applications
  • Confident in use of creative/design software such as Photoshop and email marketing software
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to manage varied workload and identify priorities effectively
  • Time-management ability, attention to detail and a can-do attitude towards problem-solving
  • Excellent collaborative and communication skills
  • An interest in other countries and cultures

The role is a full-time position

Salary Pay Point: £27,000

The role is based at our Oxford office, Kemp House, Chawley Park, Cumnor Hill, Oxford OX2 9PH on a hybrid-working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred).

As an Assistant role, this position is eligible for Bloomsbury’s Rental Deposit Loan Scheme. To assist candidates who want to start and to establish a career in publishing, Bloomsbury offers an interest-free rental deposit to support securing somewhere to live. The rental deposit loan can be up to £3,000 and will be paid back over 2 years.
